How We Handle Data
This page explains what happens to information about you when you read On The Spot Magazine or write to us. The short version: we collect very little, we do not track you, and we never sell or share what we do receive. The longer version follows.

A static site by design
The magazine is built as a set of plain, pre-made pages. There are no user accounts, no comment boxes, no logins and no forms that store anything on our side. Because of that, reading the site does not require you to hand over any personal details at all.
What we do not use
- No analytics software and no tools counting who visits.
- No advertising networks or ad-serving scripts.
- No tracking pixels, fingerprinting or cross-site profiling.
- No embedded social media widgets that report your visit to third parties.
Server logs kept by our hosting provider
Like every website, ours is delivered by a hosting provider whose servers handle each request. To keep the service running and secure, those servers record basic technical data for a short period: your IP address, the date and time of the request, the page requested, the browser type and the referring page if your browser sends one. We use this information only to deliver pages and to protect the site against abuse. It is not combined with other data, and it is not used to identify individual readers. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in running a secure, working website (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).
Your cookie choice
When you answer the cookie notice, your browser remembers that answer in its own local storage so the notice does not reappear on every page. This entry stays on your device, is never sent to us and can be cleared at any time through your browser settings. More detail is on our page The Small Print on Cookies.
When you email us
If you send a message to the address on our Say Hello page, we receive your email address, your name if you include it and whatever you choose to tell us. We use this only to read and answer your message, for example to fix an error or consider a topic idea. We keep correspondence only as long as it is useful for that conversation and then delete it. Here we rely on your own request, together with our legitimate interest in answering it.
Links to other places
A few of our articles point readers towards other websites. Once you follow such a link, that site's own privacy practices take over, and they are worth a quick read.
Your rights
The General Data Protection Regulation gives every reader these rights:
- find out whether any of your personal data sits with us, and get a copy of it;
- have inaccurate data corrected;
- have your data erased;
- ask us to pause processing, or tell us you object to it;
- take your data with you in a format other services can read;
- lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority.
Any of these can be requested with a short email to us. In practice the only personal data we could hold is a message you sent, so most requests can be handled quickly.
Children
The magazine is written for a general audience. We do not knowingly collect information from children, and since the site has no sign-ups, there is nowhere for it to be collected.
Changes
If the way the site works changes, for example if a new feature handles data differently, we will update this page and the date above. Our House Rules for Visitors cover the general rules for using the magazine.
